Rob Fowler Receives NCGSU Award

Insurance executive Rob Flower has been honored by North Georgia College & State University with the 2010 Young Alumnus Award. He received the recognition on April 17 at the alumni association’s awards banquet, one of the featured events held during Parents and Alumni Weekend in Dahlonega.

Fowler, who graduated from NGCSU in 1981 as a Distinguished Military Student, served as President of the Student Government Association and as Commander of Second Battalion. Following his graduation he was commissioned into the U.S. Army and served ten years in the United States Army/Army Reserves in Military Intelligence. His last military assignment was Commander of the 212th Reserve Transportation Company when it was activated in November of 1990 in support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm.

In addition to various professional designations in the insurance industry, including Registered Health Underwriter and Chartered Life Underwriter, Fowler holds a Masters in Management degree from Webster University. He started his insurance career with Provident Life and Accident Insurance in Chattanooga and in 1996 joined the Gainesville based Turner Wood & Smith Insurance Company, an organization in which he is now an owner and serves as Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer. He is a member of both the National and Georgia Association of Health Underwriters and is a past recipient of the Insurance Man of the Year from the Insurance Professionals of Gainesville.

An active community volunteer, Fowler has served in various leadership positions with the Greater Hall County Chamber of Commerce, including a term as Board Chairman. He is also the founder and current Board Chairman of the Chamber’s Vision 2030 long range visioning and planning organization. For his efforts on behalf of the Greater Hall County Chamber of Commerce he was awarded the organization’s highest honor, the W.G. Mealor Award. He also serves as Chairman of the Board of Rehabilitation Industries of Northeast Georgia, on the Board of Visitors of Riverside Military Academy, and is president-elect of the Gainesville Rotary Club. He is a graduate of both Leadership Georgia and Leadership Hall County.

Fowler and his wife Leslie have two sons and are active in the First United Methodist Church in Gainesville.
